Who We Are

‘Karunya’ means Kindness…

‘KARUNYA’ make selfless service of many volunteers And the prayer and support of well-wishers, like you…

St. Thomas Karunya Guidance centre is a group of Institutions and Projects, registered under the Travancore Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Reg: Act, 1955 in the year 1986 and has its office at Ulloor Gardens- 23, Medical College (Po), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala- 695011. An executive committee with the President H. G. Yuhanon Mar Chrysostomos Metropolitan is giving leadership to the activities of Karunya. The St. Thomas Karunya Guidance Centre, as you know it today, began in 1986, formulated by the Malankara Orthodox Church to act as a refuge for the indigent patients of the Regional Cancer Centre, Medical College and Sri Chithira providing them with food, shelter and guidance without the boundaries of caste or religion.

There has been many acts of help and assistance through the Karunya Guidance Centre and it’s sister foundations, but the work is not yet finished. The Church, through the guidance centre and its affiliated organisations, continue to battle on for the poor and the unfortunate. It behooves you, the reader, to stand with us in helping those who are in need of you, and your invaluable help through financial aid and prayers to battle on for those who beseech for your help, for only then can we all say that we have fought the good fight, that we have fought on the side of God.

Even Three decades before the inception of the Karunya Guidance Centre, the Church was fighting on the behalf of the impoverished with schemes like the fund for the poor and the marriage assistance fund. From the limited circumstances in which the guidance centre commenced its activities, it has flourished into a multifaceted entity, comprising of Karunya Guidance Centre, Karunya Vishranthi Bhavan, Hospice and Cancer Palliative Centre, Old age home, Karunya Sanketham (or Karunya Refuge), Karunya Sneha Bhojanam ( or Karunya Feast of Love), Karunya Home Care, Awareness programs, Medical Camps, Counseling Centre, St. Mary’s Clinic etc.

In this undertaking of helping the impecunious, needy people, the KARUNYA invites all those who are able to assist and aid us through prayers and financial support. For it is written in Matthew 25 : 40 – And The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. So essentially, by helping those who are less fortunate than you, you are ministering to Christ Himself.

As the Church is its people and providing succour for the impoverished helpless is not possible without monetary aid, and as the number of people who come from poor backgrounds and in need of our help are ever increasing, we are hoping that you, the reader of this site and page will heed the distressed clarion call from the Church to stand with it in this movement of aiding our brethren by imparting financial backing for so noble a purpose. May the Lord God bless you and aid you in all your endeavours.

Karunya – ‘kindness’

All it takes to break the intergenerational cycle of poor health, nutrition, and lifestyle, is a little bit of kindness. Karunya, as the name suggests, does not just aim to ensure that the needy has access to healthcare but also touches various aspects of care and shelter for individuals of all ages, so that the community undergoes a holistic development.
