Karunya Guidance Center is a charitable society, established in Trivandrum, Kerala, that initially started to extend support to underprivileged patients who arrived at various hospitals in the city, for advanced care and treatment. These people were left on their own in the vast city, without enough funds to cater for their food and shelter as well as medication and expensive treatments. These people were mostly the ailing patients themselves and their family members as caretakers. They often faced poor nutritional and health outcomes and some would eventually succumb to their ailments. Karunya was thus established in the year 1986 to fulfill its goals of improving the health conditions of these patients and provide support to the families that would go beyond make-shift arrangements for treatment.
